Lean Green Festive Machine #1

Festive Frocks: She'll Be Apples

In which I discover that it IS easy being green... Sorry, Kermit...

Usually when people think of that festive outfit they're planning to bust out for that special Christmas party with friends or colleagues or even what they are planning to wear on the day itself, it falls into 3 traditional categories: red, gold or silver. Sometimes all three together... and sometimes with sparkles.

For a Queensland summer, I think there's something to be said for that seemingly "forgotten" Christmas colour - green. Shop assistants always say that green dresses don't sell as well as many of the other colours but I just can't believe it! I mean, green is such a calming, natural colour that is PERFECT for our Queensland summer. And what's more, there's a particular SHADE that suits everyone, from redheads to brunettes to blonds; tanned skin, dark skin or fair.

Below are two of my favourite festive dress picks for 2014 in a gorgeous shade of apple green. Why not try it yourself? As they say, she'll be apples!

LOOK #1
Dress: Jacqui E poly-blend
Heels: Emerson @ Big W patent
Clutch: Diana Ferrari patent
Scarf: Katies
Headband: Lovisa
Cuff: Wallace Bishop silver
Cuff with Stone: Adorne chrome & faceted black stone

This first, Art-Deco-inspired option is an easy, breezy way to look "put together" for any smart casual to dressy Christmas function. The black line down the middle of the silky silk elongates the frame while the "checked" embroidery detail on the shoulders is visually interesting. A pair of black patent platforms & a black clutch add a touch of shine for a special occasion while the studded scarf, wrapped around the neck in a nonchalant manner, adds that touch of swagger we all want to have in the midst of a social gathering.

Jewellery was kept to a minimum, with 2 sculptural options: a silver cuff on my right forearm & a chrome & black faceted stone cuff on the left, mixing metals in keeping with the studs covering the length of the scarf.

Speaking of those extra special touches, this headband with large black rose adds that perfect finishing touch to the ensemble & keeps that "flapper-esque" party feeling...

Trapeze style dresses are an absolute God-send, particularly during the festive season when there's so much sumptuous food around to indulge in! This outfit is a stunning smart casual option when you don't want to get too dressed up but still want to feel special. The silver beading around the keyhole neckline is a great way to add a little sparkle & shine without going overboard & is echoed in the silver of the embellished sandals & handbag.

Such a simple, plain coloured silhouette means you can load up the accessories: in this case, a stack of beaded bracelets that my brother Louis brought back from his recent trip to China on one wrist & a chunky silver hinged bangle & thinner jade bangle on the other.

To complete the look, this silk flower in a mismatched shade of mint green is clipped into place. Rather than wear it on the side of my head near my ear, as is usually the case, I decided to wear it on top, folding down the bottom petals to create an almost Snugglepot-&-Cuddlepie-esque "cap." A sweet little girly touch...

On the seventh day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Seven swans-a-swimming
Six geese-a-laying
Five gold rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtledoves
And a partridge in a pear tree

Speaking of girly touches, these next few decorations are of the particularly "feminine" variety - pink toned angels with arms full of pastries, ladies in funky outfits who inform us about the importance of eating desert first, reindeers with pink tutus & shoes... high heeled shoes...

All from far & wide & all with a distinct place on our eclectic tannenbaum!
